BMW Group says its sixth-generation battery received the Global New Energy Vehicle Innovative Technology award. According to the company, BMW was the only non-Chinese automaker among recipients of WNEVC technology awards.
Gen6 moves to cylindrical cells and an 800-volt system. BMW also reports more than 500 patent applications connected with the transition from Gen5 to Gen6.
The milestone car is a BMW M4 Competition Convertible for the US market. The plant has built BMWs since 1973 and will begin producing the new 3 Series Sedan in November.
