Hartge grew as a family BMW atelier with a strong engineering and motorsport focus. Its former workshop in Beckingen served as a development centre for racing and exclusive BMWs, including from 1983. On classic 3 Series, the work went beyond wheels and suspension: powerful engine conversions were offered, and particularly ambitious E30 projects were built. In Britain, BMW specialist Birds supported Hartge products and conversions.

Engines and transmissions, chassis work, body development and low-volume conversions.

Best known for E30 and other classic BMW builds; some conversions used engines from larger M models.
